7 years old, this little girl was born prematurely, suffered seizures as an infant and was then diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. Due to the seizures, she also suffered damage to her temporal/occipital lobe. She is blind and has pan-hypopituitarism. She is very small in size, is G-tube fed and is unable to walk unassisted. She loves music, singing, dancing, swimming and being with her family. She's an excellent mimic and often repeats her sibling's conversations verbatim. She will receive a digital piano so that she can not only play music, but can have it played back to her.

This 8 year old little boy has a yet un-named condition. For most of his life, he has been suffering from a severe skin condition similar to Job Syndrome. Often times, he has open sores on his body. The pain can be quite severe and he has been on treatment plans of steroids and antibiotics, essential oil therapy and wet skin wrapping in order to try to bring about pain management and relief. Through it all, he remains very much a "regular" boy. He enjoys music, spending time with his family and is a very spiritual child, interested in his church history. For his special wish, he will receive an iPod touch along with accessories and an iTunes gift card.

6 years old, this little girl has just finished her first year of treatment for pre-B ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), and will continue treatment for another two years. She is a quiet little girl who enjoys doing crafts, skating, helping mom around the house, Cinderella and playing with her two dogs, Sasha and Koda. Her wish will be a wonderful trip to Walt Disney World.

This 4 year old little girl was born with Microcephaly. She is severely globally delayed, has visual impairment and is unable to speak or walk unassisted. 14 years old, this boy has complex Sickle Cell Anemia. He is followed by the sickle cell team at the U of A and has a full scan of all his organs once a year. His daily routine consists of low dose penicillin, folic acid, vitamin D and Hydroxyurea (a cancer medication). He loves stuffed animals, camping, horseback riding, riding his bike, Woody from Toy Story and spending time with his dad. For his special wish, he will enjoy a trip to Walt Disney World.

This 9 year old boy has a complicated medical history. As a baby, he contracted meningitis which ultimately left him with Spastic Quadriplegia and global developmental delays. He suffered from Stevens-Johnson Syndrome when he was much younger, along with a stroke, and at that point he began having seizures. He is reliant on a wheelchair for his mobility and requires all aspects of personal care. He's non-verbal but very socially interactive. He and his family will fly to Newfoundland as his special wish so that he may visit with his grandparents and meet his great grandparents for the first time.

16 years old, this young girl has Cerebral Palsy. She has difficulty walking and often relies on crutches or a cane. For distance mobility, she uses a manual wheelchair. She enjoys being as active as possible and plays a variety of modified sports such as basketball and soccer. She also enjoys swimming. For her special wish, she will receive a television and DVD system for her bedroom.

This 17 year old girl has a global developmental delay and Tourettes Syndrome. Due to her severe learning needs and sensory integration issues, she requires a modified environment and assistance with all levels of activity and care to ensure her safety. She loves to be outside playing on the swings, baking muffins, swimming, music, yoga and horseback riding. Her all-time favourite show is Glee. For her special wish, she will have a "pamper" day at a local Spa, followed by a night at the Jubliations Dinner Theatre to watch their production of Glee.

This 15 year old boy has Vascular Necrosis. This is a progressive and painful disease which has left him largely confined to a manual wheelchair. Before contracting this illness, he was a high level athlete. His love of sport has now led him in different directions and he is fast becoming a competitive racer with the Provincial Paralpine team, as well as playing sledge hockey. For his special wish, he will receive a Praschberger Monoski.

This 13 year old boy has a condition called Dumping Disease whereby food does not stay in his tummy for very long. He has a G-tube which is used as his primary feeding method when his esophagus isn't dilated and also, when he is feeding orally, a thickener is run through the G-tube to help him retain the food for as long as possible. A huge sports fan, he loves the Oilers, the Eskimos and the Rush. His other passion is for wrestling and he is a big fan of John Cena. For his special wish, he will go to Wrestlemania 28 in the spring of 2012.

This little 8 year old girl was born with Cerebral Palsy. As a result, she is confined to a wheelchair and is unable to walk unassisted or to speak. A happy and contented child, she loves to go swimming and to be pushed on the swing set and especially loves it when someone helps her to walk by holding onto her. Her wish will be a special needs stroller which will greatly assist her family when going out on outings.

This 8 year old girl had her first epileptic seizure right around her 4th birthday. Since then, she has had three surgeries to try to control the number of seizures, with the last surgery being this past Spring. Her wish will be a family trip to the fabulous Give Kids the World resort in Kissimmee, Florida.

Her major diagnosis has not yet been established, although she sees a geneticist once a year for testing. She loves animals, but has a special affinity for elephants and horses, loves to be read to, and enjoys watching Snow White, Black Beauty and Cinderella movies. Her wish will be a family trip to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida, where she will be a special guest at Give Kids the World.

This 11 year old boy has Myotonic Dystrophy. He also has right Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy and high anxiety issues, but is learning coping strategies as he gets older. She loves Facebook and being on the computer, clothes shopping, scrap booking and earrings. She is very outgoing and loves having company and getting out and about in the community. Her wish will be a family trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

10 years old, this young girl has an atypical seizure disorder (etiology still unclear) and Torsion Dystonia (disease characterized by painful muscle contractions resulting in uncontrollable distortions). She also has speech and gross and fine motor skill delays. She has been started on a new drug to see if that assists, as her medical team has been unable to make a clear diagnosis. Underneath it all, she is a regular 10 year old girl who enjoys crafts, drawing, dancing and yoga. For her special wish, she and her family will enjoy a fun-filled one week family vacation to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida.

This 9 year old boy was born with an extremely rare chromosomal abnormality, the Tandem Duplication of 11p12p13. He is only one of two children in the world to have this diagnosis. What this means to him is that he has some developmental delay, is visually impaired, has sensory processing difficulties, an auto immune disorder, cystic disorder and kidney disease. He is a "thrill seeker" who loves going on rides and watching the Discovery Channel. He will receive a fun-filled one week family vacation to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida for his special wish.

Nine years old, this little girl suffers from a severe seizure disorder. When she was younger, she had over 100 seizures each day. She is not self mobile or verbal and must rely on others for all aspects of her personal care. She loves mascots, movement and noise (sensory pleasures). This young man is 12 years old. He suffered brain damage at birth resulting in him having low muscle tone, poor cognitive skills, fine and gross motor skill difficulties, high anxiety and a sensory programming disorder. He enjoys water, playing indoor basketball with his dad, being with familiar people and using the therapy swing his parents have mounted in the basement. He will soon be able to enjoy an above ground, heated swimming pool for the backyard.

Eight years old, this young boy was born with Job Syndrome, but was not diagnosed until three years ago. Job Syndrome is a very rare condition which affects several body systems, particularly the immune system. Affected individuals tend to have frequent pneumonia, recurrent skin infections and an inflammatory skin disorder. The skin problems cause rashes, blisters, open sores and scaling, all which are very painful. He takes daily pain medication and has a transfusion each month at the hospital. Since he is often bedridden, he passes the time watching television. He enjoys, when able, playing soccer and street hockey, watching movies, roller blading and watching hockey (especially the Pittsburgh Penguins). His will enjoy a Disneyland vacation with his family.

This 11 year old girl lives with her parents and twin brother. She has Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus and thus is required to wear braces on both legs and use a manual wheelchair when she gets tired. She has a shunt and has undergone twenty-one surgeries over the course of her young life. Collecting teddy bears, writing stories, reading, horseback riding and playing with her Webkinz are some of the things she enjoys. She will be receiving a hot tub for her special wish. |
