Everyone has favorite wishes. Each wish we receive at The Rainbow Society is as unique as the child who dreams it up. The only boundaries are those of the child's imagination. Here is a look at some of our most recent applications that are approved and currently in the process of coming true...

WISH #883

12 years old, this young lady has Spina Bifida and is required to use a wheelchair for mobility.  She also has Hydrocephalus.  She is a quiet girl who enjoys school and being outdoors.  She is a good student and particularly likes French class and Foods.  She also enjoys spending time on the computer.  She will soon be receiving her own laptop computer system, as her special wish.

WISH #882

After suffering a small stroke at age one, this now four year old boy was diagnosed with Factor 8 Deficiency (Hemophilia).  He receives Factor 8 every day through an IVAD (Implanted Vascular Access Device) in his chest.  His skull is also not properly attached and he will require surgery to correct this once he has stopped growing.  He currently receives therapy for speech and motor skills.  Like most young boys, he likes Transformers, especially BumbleBee, playing with cars, his Wii gaming system and watching television.  His special wish will be a family trip to the Give Kids the World Village in Disney World, Florida.

WISH #881

In 2007, this 11 year old girl was diagnosed with Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease and Macrophagic Activation Syndrome (a potentially life-threatening condition of an over active immune system).  She is followed monthly through the Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic and takes daily medications.  She enjoys snowmobiling, playing soccer and volleyball, science and phys ed.  She also takes piano lessons and enjoys both classical and contemporary music.  For her wish, she will enjoy a family trip to the Give Kids the World Village in Disney World, Florida.

WISH #880

This seven year old girl has Arthrogryposis, which is a form of muscular dystrophy.  She does not have the use of her limbs and as such, must use a wheelchair for mobility and rely on others for all aspects of care.  She loves art, giant swings, camping, her puppy "Max", Bolt, the Little Mermaid and Scooby Doo.  She will soon travel to Disneyland, California to enjoy her special wish.

WISH #879

This little guy is three years old and has an undiagnosed seizure disorder.  He has an average of five seizures daily and is on medications to help keep them under control.  He is not yet completely walking by himself or speaking.  He loves banging on things, big machines and big trucks!  He will be receiving a shopping spree through Flaghouse to purchase sensory equipment as his special wish.

 

WISH #878

This nine year old boy has Microcephaly with severe global delays and has also been diagnosed with Autism.  He receives speech and physical therapy each week and works with a behavioural aide each day.  He is a very social child who enjoys playing on the computer and with his Wii system, swimming, boating, monster trucks and painting.  He will be receiving a variety of Snoezelen sensory equipment pieces to enjoy.

WISH #877

10 years old, this young boy was diagnosed in 2006 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  He takes steroids to try to slow the progression of the disease but fatigues easily and can't handle any prolonged physical activity.  He enjoys video games, Star Wars, Spiderman, seals and playing with his baby brother.  A SpaBerry two person portable spa will soon be his to enjoy.

WISH #876

This seven year old boy has Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, progressive scoliosis and a global developmental delay.  He is G-tube fed, non mobile, non verbal and requires all aspects of personal care.  He enjoys sensory stimulations like being in water, being taken outside on walks and watching the fish in his aquarium.  He we be receiving an entertainment centre comprised of a flat screen television and a Blu-ray DVD player for his special wish.

WISH #874

This six year old girl’s condition falls under the umbrella of Cerebral Palsy.  She is non-verbal and non-mobile, G-tube fed and requires assistance with all aspects of personal care.  She loves adventure and enjoys going to Calaway Park to ride the rides.  She also likes playing on the computer, looking at pictures and swimming.  She is able to control some activities by using a head switch attached to the computer.  For her special wish, she will be receiving a hot tub to enjoy.

WISH #873

Five years old, this little girl has been diagnosed with Global Delay, severe low muscle tone, precocious puberty and Autism.  She has poor endurance and muscle strength, needing assistance with walking and balance.  She is also non-verbal.  She started to go through puberty a year ago and now receives hormone injections monthly.  She will continue to receive the injections until she reaches the age where her body should begin puberty.  She likes music, lights, water, bubbles and watching Disney shows.  For her special wish, she will receive a family trip to Orlando, Florida to spend a week at the Give Kids the World Village.

WISH #872

This young eight year old girl was born with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and is affected on one side of her body (both arm and leg).  She has had heel cord lengthening surgery which was very successful in that she doesn't trip as much as she used to.  She will be having tendon surgery on her arm in the next few months in an attempt to open up her fingers.  She likes to play with her baby brother and her daddy.  She also enjoys riding her trike, playing on her swing set and playing with her Nintendo DS system.  She will soon be enjoying a family trip to Florida where she will have the opportunity to swim with dolphins.

WISH #871

This seven year old boy has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and must use a walker to help with his mobility.  In crowds, or for long distances, he uses a wheelchair.  He has had several surgeries in his short life, the most recent being in December.  He loves to go camping and quadding and playing with his video games, but his biggest thrill comes from watching Monster Trucks.  His absolute favourite is Grave Digger!  For his wish, he will receive the opportunity to go to the Monster Jam finals in 2011 and we will make every effort to have him meet Dennis Anderson, Grave Digger's driver!

WISH #869

11 years old, this little girl has a host of medical issues including Down Syndrome, Trisomy 21 (a trisomy is a genetic abnormality in which there are three copies, instead of the normal two, of a particular chromosome) and Cerebral Palsy.  She is blind, non verbal and confined to a wheelchair.  She spends a lot of time in bed watching television for entertainment, as she can see light and shadow.  She especially enjoys Disney movies and Disney music and playing video games with her older brother.  For her wish, she will receive a wall mounted, big screen television with a DVD player.

WISH #868

This little boy suffers from a very severe form of asthma, taking strong doses of inhaled steroids and other prescription medications.  He is unable to exert himself physically without having complications.  He is shy and quiet child who enjoys being with his family and friends.  For his special wish, he will receive a bedroom makeover, consisting of a twin bed and coordinating furniture.

WISH #867

This 10 year old little girl was born with a wide variety of medical issues including mild Spina Bifida, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), left kidney reflux, a sequestered left lung, patent ductus arteriosus (a heart condition) and Bilateral Anophthalmia (born without eyes).  She is mobile, with assistance, but must use a wheelchair for distance mobility.  Additionally, she is G-tube fed.  In spite of her health conditions, she is a Girl Guide and loves going to her meetings (with a care-giver); she also takes gymnastics and enjoys horse-back riding.  Her passion is music and she loves to listen to her family play Rock Band.  She will receive a family trip for four to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

WISH #863

This 13 year girl was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.  She wears AFOs (leg braces) because of her condition.  She is very susceptible to bladder infections and has undergone several surgeries to her legs.  She must use a wheelchair for her distance mobility.  She loves swimming and playing on the computer.  She will receive a family trip for four to DisneyWorld in Orlando, Florida for her special wish.

WISH #862

14 years old, this young girl and has Glycogen Storage Disease (a disease of the liver).  She contracted Meningitis and Guillain-Barré last spring which left her completely paralyzed.  She is slowly recovering from this devastating occurrence.  She is unable to walk and hasn't completely regained her ability to take in foods orally, so is also g-tube fed.  She enjoys books on tape and watching DVDs.  She will be heading with her family on an Alaskan cruise as her special wish.

WISH # 846

This 14 year old boy lives with his parents and younger brother.  He has Cerebral Palsy and a chronic lung disease.  He is also deaf and has a learning disorder.  Because of his condition, he wears leg braces and receives Botox injections to his hamstring and heel chords on a regular basis.  He has low endurance for anything that is physically demanding.  This young man was also G-tube fed until earlier this year, has tubes in his ears and wears hearing aides.  Wrestling is his serious passion.  He loves to watch it on television, read books about it, watch videos and play games all about wrestling as well.  We will be fulfilling his dream to travel and meet one of his favourite WWE wrestling stars.

WISH #844

Eight years old, this young boy lives with his mom, two sisters and infant nephew.  He was born with Job Syndrome, but was not diagnosed until three years ago.  Job Syndrome is a very rare condition which affects several body systems, particularly the immune system.  Affected individuals tend to have frequent pneumonia, recurrent skin infections and an inflammatory skin disorder.  The skin problems cause rashes, blisters, open sores and scaling, all which are very painful.  He takes daily pain medication and has a transfusion each month at the hospital.  Since he is often bedridden, he passes the time watching television.  He enjoys, when able, playing soccer and street hockey, watching movies, roller blading and watching hockey (especially the Pittsburgh Penguins).  His wish is to meet the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team.

WISH #792

This 11 year old girl lives with her parents and twin brother.  She has Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus and thus is required to wear braces on both legs and use a manual wheelchair when she gets tired.  She has a shunt and has undergone twenty-one surgeries over the course of her young life.  Collecting teddy bears, writing stories, reading, horseback riding and playing with her Webkinz are some of the things she enjoys.  She will be traveling to meet Zac Ephron from High School Musical as her special wish.

This 15 year old boy lives with his parents and four siblings. He was born with a severe mixed seizure disorder, Global Developmental Delay and Cerebral Palsy, and is dependant upon others for all aspects of care. He loves music therapy, running water, swimming and loud noises. His wish is for a family trip to Disney World.
