They have been providing sponsorship and prizes to both our June Charity Classic golf tournament and our Women Fore Wishes golf tournament for a number of years. Ken Miller and his staff have a heart for children and we sincerely thank them for helping us make wishes come true!

When Kobbie Larbi, General Manager at Travelodge Calgary University contacted Debbie Van Camp at The Rainbow Society looking for a way to help, it was decided that the Travelodge Teddy Bear was a world-renowned symbol of Travelodge; therefore, selling bears was a natural fit. For over 1 1/2 years the Travelodge Calgary University has been selling Rainbow Bears and donating all monies back to the society. To date, the Travelodge has sold close to 300 bears. Thank you for your support!

HD

Harley Davidson Grande Prairie is a huge supporter of The Rainbow Society. Shaun Rude and his staff have gone out of their way to help us with our Harley Davidson motorcycle raffle. They willingly donated their time, energy and resources to move the bike between venues, spent hours with us picking the right bike and helped sponsor the raffle. They also support and sponsor our June Charity Classic golf tournament as well as our Women Fore Wishes golf tournament. Our hats/helmets are off to Harley Davidson Grande Prairie!

GE

Our thanks to Gibson Energy for their continued support of the Teddy Bear Toss. For several years Gibson Energy has purchased Bear Paks from The Rainbow Society. The initiative started by selling 300  bears ten years ago, to 5500 bears in 2008.

Shine FMNathan

Shine 96.3 FM radio in Grande Prairie is getting on board with The Rainbow Society by choosing us as their charity of the month for July 2009. Shine FM hosted a free on-location for our Princess For A Day event, with their marketing director coming dressed up as a Princess outfit for the day. The staff has gone out of their way to help promote who, what and why The Rainbow Society does what it does. They have done interviews with wish children, parents and the Regional Manager. They are providing free radio ads five times per day for the month of July to help spread the word. Our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Shine FM for all their hard work and support.

Mark's

Since 2002 Mark's Work Wearhouse has been providing wonderful clothing for the participants of the Women fore Wishes Golf Tournament held annually..

The yoga suits that have been provided in the last few years have been the talk of the tournament. Matching quality and style Mark's Work Wearhouse has really outdone itself for our golfers. Women all over southern Alberta are proudly wearing logo'd clothing donated by Mark's.

We are so proud and grateful for such a wonderful partner in Mark's Work Wearhouse. The quality of their products combined with their amazing staff have made every year of the golf tournament a success.

They are title sponsor at our June Charity Golf Classic golf tournament and are a major sponsor for the Women Fore Wishes tournament in September.

Their staff are involved by serving on the golf committee and in helping at the tournament. The staff at Doug Marshall Motor City sold tickets for our Harley Davidson Motorcycle raffle and the Playhouse raffle in 2008.

Dale graciously lets our staff use the Doug Marshall board room for all of our meetings. It would be hard to imagine The Rainbow Society without the support of Doug Marshall Motor City.

For several years, Maillot Homes has given a child of The Rainbow Society their dream. The people at Maillot Homes understand how precious dreams are - they make them come true for their home owners every day.

Last year, with the generous support of both Maillot Homes and their friends at the Christmas party sponsored wish #743, a seven year old girl diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositits, an illness that affects her kidneys. She wishes for her family to go to Disney. We thank all the people at Maillot Homes for their generosity, especially Adrian and Elsie Maillot for their continued support!

We are proud to be partners with such dedicated members of the community!

UNAP

The United Nurses of Alberta have been supporting The Rainbow Society for many years. We are proud to welcome them as title sponsor of this year's Rainbow Gala in October. Starting May 21 2007, the United Nurses of Alberta have sponsored a number of vignettes airing on the Global network throughout Alberta. These spots will feature six of our wish children, and how having their wishes granted made a difference in their lives. This is something that we never would have been able to do without the help of the UNA. Our thanks to all the UNA members, staff and executive for making this promotion possible!

UNA301

The United Nurses of Alberta Local 301 (University of Alberta Hospital) has been involved with The Rainbow Society for more years than we can admit to remembering! What started out as a SNAA (Staff Nurses Association of Alberta) fun-run, morphed into a downtown bed race, and then became the very popular Rainbow Gala in 1998.

The commitment from Local 301 members shows up in countless volunteer hours and financial support used in producing the Rainbow Gala. Betty Ann Emery (Local 301 president) is currently our Director of Wishes and was our Volunteer of the Year for 2008. Teresa Caldwell (Local 301 vice president) works with Betty Ann to ensure every production of the Gala is a huge success. Many hours are also donated by Ros Gullickson, Linda Brockmann, Marion McKenznie, Marie Therese Mageau and other 301 members every year. We salute all of you for your dedication!

Third Party Events and Sponsors

Many companies donate funds to us from their golf tournaments, Christmas parties or similar events. Please contact us and we can provide support at your event, and speak to your members. Here are some of the many generous corporate donors working with us this year:

  • With one full time and one part time person working for The Rainbow Society in Calgary, it was music to our ears to hear that Elite Fleet Courier wanted to become our courier sponsor. This service will save us a lot of time and dollars. Next time you need a pick up or delivery in Calgary be sure to call Elite Fleet!
  • For the past two years, The Rainbow Society of Alberta has been the recipient of two classic golf tournaments. The Makin' Hole and Best in Class golf tournaments in Calgary. Collectively these two tournaments have raised enough money to grant 14 wishes!! The following wishes were granted thanks to the generosity of these tournaments: #636 to meet Jeff Gordon, #642 horse Camp in Arizona, #584 Disney cruise, #686 TV and entertainment center, #706 Hawaii, #716 Blue Jays game, #719 taping of Deal or No Deal, #614 Pyrenees puppy, 5 trips to Disney and #715 Mediterranean cruise. Thank you to all of the golfers and especially Al Omotani for continuing to see the value of our program.
  • The Crestwood Curling Club in Edmonton has pledged support to The Rainbow Society from their annual family bonspiel to be held January 25th, 2009. Go to www.crestwoodcurling.com for more information.
  • A group of caring students at the University of Alberta have created the AB Rainbow Club to fundraise and create awareness for the Society. Check out their calendar of events and other information at www.ualberta.ca/~rainbow/RS.htm
  • It takes many hands to make a dream come true. The Calgary Properties Lions Club has assisted The Rainbow Society by helping contribute to the following wishes:
    • Wish #612 - A 10 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy wished for a computer with a big screen TV, as he is legally blind.
    • Wish # 686 - An 8 year old boy diagnosed with a seizure disorder received a big screen television and entertainment center.
    • Wish #755 - An i8 year old boy with a seizure disorder and is considered legally blind would like a new computer system with zoom text.
Thanks to the Lions who serve our community!
  • The Alberta Beverage Container Recycling Corporation has set up special containers in more than 200 bottle depots in the province to collect bottle caps as part of their "Caps Off for Kids " program. The collected caps will be sold as scrap with the proceeds being donated to The Rainbow Society. Some of the depots have set up drop off barrels for people who only have a small amount of bottles to cash in and don't want to stand in line. They can simply drop their bottles into these bins and the money will come directly to us. Metal tabs are not acceptable. Be sure to check with your local bottle depot as not all of them are able to collect the caps. The ABCRC is working hard to make this program work.
  • Chad Martin of Calgary's Vibe 98.5 morning show chose The Rainbow Society of Alberta as his charity of choice when he won a contest between himself and his co-host "Fuzzy". Chad and Fuzzy competed in numerous different 'challenges' and in the end Chad took the prize. He donated $10,000 to The Rainbow Society. Because of his generosity, three wishes were granted:
    • A three year old boy who has had a heart transplant and is G tube fed would like to have an outdoor playground set.
    • A seventeen year old girl born prematurely and diagnosed with CP would like a dream bedroom makeover.
    • A fifteen year old boy diagnosed with Spastic Quad CP and severe seizure disorder would like a 40" plasma television, with DVD and surround sound.
  • All of the Calgary and area Boston Pizza franchises chose to donate to The Rainbow Society. They chose to grant the following because of the educational factors:
    • A fifteen year old girl who has Type 1 diabetes would like to have a new computer system.
    • A thirteen year old girl diagnosed with Spina Bifida would like to have a new laptop computer.
  • BlueFin Group of Companies is proud to kick off its charitable division, BlueFin Charitable Foundation, with the Everything Elvis Masquerade, where you will enjoy a 4-course meal complete with select premium wine pairings, live entertainment, and a silent auction. BlueFin will donate all net proceeds from the ticket sales and silent auction to The Rainbow Society. Please click here to go to their web page to order tickets.
  • The Mighty Peace Chapter (#9990) of the Harley Owners Group will be working towards raising money for The Rainbow Society all this year. They'll be involved in bar-b-que's, poker rallies, 50/50 draws and some silent auctions, as well as events at Grande Prairie Harley Davidson. What better way to raise money for charity than riding a motorcycle in the sunshine? Thanks to all the men and women who ride in the Mighty Peace HOG chapter! See what they're up to by clicking here.
  • The Grande Prairie Firefighters will be hosting their annual Old Timer's Hockey Game on Friday March 20, 2009. Gametime is 7:00PM at the Canada Games Area in Grande Prairie. a portion of the profits will be given to The Rainbow Society.
  • A very brave little girl by the name of Elizabeth Thomas decided to raise some money to help pay for one of our wishes. The staff and students at Wes Hosford Elementary School in Sherwood Park helped out by putting on various mini fundraisers over the winter, including a hair streaking/shaving event on February 27th. The final tally was enough to sponsor this wish:

Eric is a very special 15 year old boy with a very large family (eight siblings!). He was born with severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy and is completely reliant on others for all aspects of his personal care. Eric is unable to walk or talk and is developmentally delayed because of his condition. His mom estimates he has the cognitive ability of a six year old. Eric's favorite thing in the world is country music and watching country music videos on CMT. His wish was for a wall mounted flat screen television so he can watch his favorite channel while lying on his bed.

Elizabeth kept her promise to shave her head if she raised the total amount. Our hats off to you, Elizabeth and your mom Yvonne for raising over $5500.00!

  • The Edmonton Z Car Club is a non-profit society dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Nissan and Datsun Z sports cars and other Nissan/Datsun automobiles. The Edmonton Z Car Club organizes and hosts various events throughout the year, including car shows, group drives to various locations in Alberta, Christmas or event parties and several auto related tech sessions. Since 1999, the club has donated over $5300 to The Rainbow Society from part entry fee proceeds from their annual Z Club Show & Shine and member donations. Thank you so much for your continued support!
